Hibiscus, 238 Augusta Street (in Kensington Market), 416- 364-6183

Jennifer sent me a message about Hibiscus:

"The entire menu--soups, salads, rice baguette, crepes, cookies and cupcakes-- is gluten-free and vegetarian-- and many items were also vegan. I ordered their wonderful lunch special which had a selection of all 7 of their salads, a soup of the day and rice bread. Everything there was fresh and delicious! I can't recommend this cafe enough! I hope that other celiacs in Toronto love it too!"

This is entirely new to me, so thanks for the suggestion.

Hands down the best gluten free pizza in Toronto.

Big Momma's Boy is located in Cabbagetown (Wellesley and Parliament) 554 Parliament Street.
I've tried pizza from Magic Oven and Il Fornello and hands down I have to award Big Momma's Boy the first prize for best gluten free pizza in the city.

It's a thin crust. I don't know what they put in it but it melts in your mouth, it's very savoury and delicious. They also have a huge range of specialty pizzas and loads of gourmet toppings, alot of them are organic from a local farm.

My sister (who's a celiac) and I (a gluten intolerant/lactose intolerant) were really impressed with the option of being able to have your pizza gluten and lactose free. I think the big thing for us was this didn't taste like your typical gluten free baked food...it tasted like a regular thin crust pizza.

They also have alot of other gluten free meals on their menu.

Having those gluten free options combined with the cozy homey atmosphere, I highly recommend this place....in fact, I would highly recommend this place for the pizza alone.

Relish & Lolita's Lust

Rod offered these two restaurant recommendations:

Relish
2152 Danforth Ave, (just east of Woodbine) 416 425 4664

"Excellent tapas restaurant with a separate "Celiac" menu. Just ask for it. Food and service very good and the staff are very accommodating regarding tweaks to your meal, ie. lactose intolerance."

Lolita's Lust - Chinchilla Lounge
513 Danforth Ave, (just west of Carlaw), 416 465 1751

"The food is very good and Sam the owner will do his best to accommodate. He may ask several times to confirm what is acceptable or not, but the food does arrive tasting great and safe."

La Creperie

I received a message requesting that I add this place in the Distillery Historic District. Here are the details, from Robyn:

La Creperie
55 Mill Street, Building 47, Toronto, Ont

They make a gluten free amaranth flour crepe which is delicious.

I'm not sure of the phone number but you can contact Christopher Brown. You can find contact info on them by going to www.thedistillerydistrict.com

She also recommends:

Archeo - 416-815-9898- ask the waiter for Gluten free pasta - they usually stock it there. The kitchen is usually great about accommodating people if they say they need gluten free food.

Pure Spirits Oyster House and Grill - 416-361-5859
Seafood, Oysters, Steak, salads - the food here is AMAZING and they are very aware of Gluten.

The Boiler House - 416-203-2121
GREAT food - mostly a dinner menu and weekend brunch. Again - mention that you need GF and they will adapt any menu item to meet your needs.

Thanks, Robyn, for the news.
